Again it’s a photo stack, but there is also a stack of plant photos holding down the background.

Once upon a time I created a couple of pixel based fonts named BitBit and BitBit 2, which were pretty cool, but only worked at 8pt. Fontstruct outputs happy vector-based True Type fonts! So they’re great for storing garbage pixels that will resize and are tweakable in outline mode.

Glitch Bats 1 is free to download (8k .zip) Use it for all your glitching needs.

A lot of blue chair as it turns out. 42 photos as it turns out. For this stack, I really tried to work within a specific color palette, which is harder than you would think. But as any layer was only 8-10% transparent, colors only build up strength in areas of consistent overlap.

It’s getting away from giant stacks of 30 or 40 images and back to 4-8 layers. Of course, each layer has it’s own alpha channel and set of adjustment layers. And I really can’t resist getting in there with a paint brush to modify colors.

This let me treat each layer more as individual objects, which is what lead to the leaf pile in #6. I’m using some pretty thick opacities in most of these later comps. Overall, I like the series as a progression.

It became the subject of this followup to the Daily Bread. This layer stack ended up feeling very inorganic, so I glitched it up by attaching a layer mask to each of the layers. These layer masks were frames exported as an image sequence from a generated animation. This stack consisted of 30+ layers with higher opacities (30-50%), overlay and normal blend modes, and layer masks.

I then opened 6-18 of those images as a stack in Photoshop and composited them together. Each layer was given a fairly low opacity (8-15%). Most of the variations here simply resulted from the stack order of the photos and the blending mode used.
